Originally published on LinkedIn in August 2025 β a roundup of Shopify news from July 2025, including the launch of Shopify POS in the Czech Republic.
No long introductions. Straight to the point β here are the Shopify news and updates that caught my attention most in July. π€©
Shopify POS in the Czech Republic π³
From the start of August, Shopify POS is officially available in the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. For us, a huge milestone β we were involved in beta testing directly with Shopify's EMEA Retail team. This expansion finally bridges the gap between POS and e-commerce systems. We can now offer clients in these markets a complete solution.
We verified the seamless shopping experience firsthand during exclusive hardware demos for clients in the region. Shopify POS gives merchants the tools that genuinely increase sales and customer satisfaction.
Shopify Collective expanding to 36 new countries π
Including the Czech Republic. This feature, until recently reserved only for North America, completely changes the game for collaboration between retailers and suppliers.
Businesses can now easily source products and run dropshipping from suppliers who already sell on Shopify. Suppliers in turn gain new sales channels through existing retail networks. The platform automates order processing, payments, and fulfillment β it really couldn't be simpler.
In short: every Shopify store now has a direct path to connect with those who want to offer or resell its products.
Multi-currency support for manual payment methods π±
Previously, manual payment methods β cash on delivery, bank transfers β were limited to the store's primary currency. Quite impractical for international selling.
With multi-currency support via Shopify Markets, these payments now appear to customers in their local currency. As a merchant, you track transactions in the currency you've set for that market. Less confusion, more trust, higher conversions.
Platform updates
B2B manual payments π
From July 4, 2025, you can offer wholesale partners bank transfer or cash on delivery at checkout. Plus, with Checkout Blocks you can customize the entire payment process separately for B2B and D2C customers.
A huge step forward, especially in Central and Eastern European markets where manual payments still play a key role. The feature also supports transactions in local currency β so international selling has just gotten simpler again.
Unified editor for POS customization β
Shopify launched a Unified Editor for POS where you can design smart grids, lock screens, receipts, and customer displays β all from a single visual editor right in the admin. Consistent branding across all sales channels at once, without jumping between different tools.
Discounts on already-shipped items π
A new feature allows you to apply discounts to items that have already been shipped β not just those that are still being processed. This makes partial refunds and post-sale follow-ups easier. Orders also automatically unarchive for editing and re-archive after a return. It saves a lot of manual work.
In my view, this feature will be used a lot for post-purchase offers β a cross-sell that customers will appreciate and that will grow average order value.
Store credit refunds on returns π
Merchants can now offer store credit for returned items. A win-win: cash stays in the business, the customer gets an instant and flexible resolution with an incentive to buy again. You can also set a credit expiry date β they need to come back before it runs out. A smarter approach to returns, without the arguments.
Image generation directly in the theme editor π§βπ¨
Shopify has added an AI feature to the file upload tool for creating hero banners, logos, and product images directly within the platform. No more dependence on external design software β quick production of on-brand visuals without an extra tool.
Easier finding of the right theme π
Every preset theme now has its own card tailored to a specific industry and catalog size. You can browse a demo store directly on the listing page, and filters are significantly better. With more than 800 themes to choose from, launching a store is faster than ever.
Better developer experience π§βπ»
The new theme code editor brings powerful search, real-time LiquidDoc support, customizable themes (dark mode!), and improved formatting β all right in the admin. Previously, developers relied on external plugins for Liquid that not everyone knew how to set up. Now code completion and parameter validation are available to everyone. Less setup, more coding.
Track sales on mobile with widgets π€³
The new Counter widget displays the number of orders directly on your smartphone's home screen. No more jumping between apps, no constantly opening Shopify β a glance is enough. The widget updates in real time if you have push notifications enabled.
The Shopify mobile app is one of those genuinely underrated benefits of the platform. It simplifies and improves life for business owners more than many realize.
Shopify highlights
AI isn't just a buzzword for Shopify π€
An article from First Round Capital offers a fascinating look at how Shopify has transformed since Tobias LΓΌtke wrote his AI memo. From early adoption of GitHub Copilot to Cursor across all teams, to a unified AI interface that simplifies website audits or RFP responses. Plus a thriving internship program driving innovation forward.
A masterclass in what a real AI culture looks like in practice β even non-technical employees effectively use AI tools every day.
Building your own AI agent just got simpler π¬
Shopify added native integration with OpenAI. The result: a store can chat with customers, find them products, add them to the cart, and handle the entire checkout β without complex setup. Shopping as a natural conversation. Convenient for customers, simple for merchants to launch.
340% growth in B2B sales β case study π€―
Future Glass, part of Glass Warehouse, previously handled B2B sales via phone calls and hand-drawn sketches. After moving to Shopify B2B, they built a configurator where customers pick what they need in just a few clicks.
The result: 340% increase in sales, conversions up 83%, quote turnaround time reduced by 80%, and most orders shipped the same day.
Harley Finkelstein on rejecting passivity π€©
Shopify President Harley Finkelstein says on The Knowledge Project podcast that sitting back with folded arms and waiting to see how things turn out simply isn't enough. Acting and shaping your own path β that's the message that resonates for every business owner who wants to move things forward.
Whether you run a store, a service, or a startup β his call to proactivity and purposefulness might just give you the kick you need. The opportunity is here. Don't waste it.
Transforming the Shopify admin π€
The Shopify Engineering team gave the admin a serious facelift and sped it up by 30%. They also created a map of all 1,017 routes β finding what you need is now effortless. And the admin is ready for future AI features. Faster product and order management will have a positive impact on the customer experience too.
All the technical details for the nerds are here π
A conversation you have to listen to π¨
At Toronto Tech Week 2025, Shopify CTO Farhan Thawar sat down with venture investor Chamath Palihapitiya to discuss why curiosity, open expression, and deep technical understanding matter more than ever. The result: 90 minutes on how boldness and continuous learning lead to better decisions and bigger opportunities. They also discussed how AI is moving from massive generalist models to precise, domain-specific systems.
This conversation isn't just for founders and engineers β it's for anyone who wants to succeed in a world where fast learning and bold action are the biggest competitive advantage.
Custom feature of the month π
The checkout at David Protein was enhanced with a feature that dynamically suggests products to add to the cart so the customer qualifies for free shipping. A simple trick that improves the customer experience while increasing cart value. Fewer abandoned carts, higher conversions.
So those were the most important Shopify news and updates for July.
