If April Was Great, May Will Be Even Better... and Shopify News Proves It! ๐ŸŒธ

Shopify in Prague ๐Ÿ’š

If you read my last monthly roundup, you've probably already listened to our latest podcast with Lucas Walter from Shopify on exec Talks:

But that's not all! In April we hosted our first micro-event with Shopify in Prague!

Merchant News

1๏ธโƒฃ Shopify has introduced the ability to copy-paste sections between pages within the editor. This new feature allows users to duplicate sections across different pages of their online store. Check out the demo from one of the first to spot the feature: Michael from Clean Canvas โ€” one of the best theme developer teams.

2๏ธโƒฃ Shopify can now automatically split a single-item order across multiple locations if one of them is out of stock, preventing overselling for merchants with multiple warehouses and specific inventory setups. Conditions for automatic order splitting in the documentation.

3๏ธโƒฃ Shopify now allows you to restrict the maximum quantity of a single item that customers can add to their online cart, for better control over inventory visibility. This limit is preset based on your order history and can be adjusted in checkout settings, with the exception of order drafts, POS, and some B2B scenarios. New interface for setting add-to-cart limits in Shopify.

4๏ธโƒฃ Shopify Plus merchants using Checkout Blocks can set minimum and maximum order value limits, applicable to all customers or specifically to B2B companies, to control which orders can proceed to checkout. Shopify Plus users with Checkout Blocks can now control order limits.

5๏ธโƒฃ Merchants can now refund customers both as store credit and to the original payment method on Shopify, with the option to overpay the original method after issuing store credit (requires enabling the setting); it works with enabled customer accounts and uses updated refund APIs. Using store credit during mobile checkout on Shopify.

AI Corner ๐Ÿค–

Shopify doesn't just set trends in e-commerce โ€” it's doing the same with artificial intelligence! After Tobi's internal AI document came out, other tech companies are following suit.

This time it's Duolingo:

And Chat GPT officially announced its shopping features! As rumors spread about Shopify's integrations and collaboration with Open AI, we didn't have to wait long to find out exactly what they were working on. It's just the beginning โ€” but we're excited to see what comes next.

My favorite story from last month! ๐Ÿฅฒ

(Congrats Julia Fedorin ๐Ÿ‘)

Shopify has been so busy rolling out new features that it took a while to rename its "middle plan" from "Shopify" to "Grow".

No more confusion when choosing the "Shopify Shopify plan" ๐Ÿ˜‚ Updated Shopify pricing nomenclature.

Shopify POS

Shopify POS version 10 brings an improved visual design with updated navigation for faster access to key features on both tablet and mobile, smarter inline search across different sections, improved cart visibility, and new branding options for the lock screen and idle screen of the POS terminal โ€” all focused on improving efficiency and customer experience in-store.

No wonder that with such an amazing product we're seeing these massive pop-up experiences powered by Shopify! Serena Williams with Shopify! Serena Williams's pop-up store in LA. Not only in America, but in Italy too, smaller entrepreneurs and influencers are using Shopify POS at their pop-up events.

For Developers

Shopify is updating its revenue sharing model with app developers and ending the annual reset of the $1 million exemption introduced during the pandemic; starting June 16, 2025, developers will keep the exemption on the first $1 million of their lifetime earnings and receive 15% on earnings above that amount, with earnings before January 1, 2025 not counting toward this limit, and the increased revenue being reinvested into developer tools and platform improvements.

The end of support for Shopify Scripts is now being pushed to June 30, 2026, giving merchants more time to migrate to the improved Shopify Functions for discount, shipping, and payment customizations; using the Shopify Scripts modifications report is recommended for migration planning.

Shopify app ratings now include trust signals, with reviews from stores considered less trustworthy being given less weight, which may also result in reviews being unpublished and potential adjustments (both positive and negative) to an app's star rating to better reflect feedback from more trustworthy merchants.

The Shopify theme editor will gain theme color transparency controls on May 12, requiring developers to update Liquid and CSS to support transparency using new syntax (e.g., / for alpha in Liquid, rgba and color-mix in CSS); testing is available in developer stores.
